African-American female actress; full body type, mid 40’s age range, to sing (one song) and perform two short dramatic monologues of historical figures Fannie Lou Hamer and Zora Neale Hurston in Karen F. Williams’ BLACK WOMEN WALKING, an award-winning play spotlighting the achievements of notable African-American women.

Fannie Lou Hamer (born Fannie Lou Townsend; October 6, 1917 – March 14, 1977) was an American voting rights activist, civil rights leader, and philanthropist. Mrs. Hamer was instrumental in organizing Mississippi’s Freedom Summer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), and later became the vice-chair of the Mississippi Freedom
Democratic Party, which Hamer represented at the 1964 Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Zora Neale Hurston (January 7, 1891 – January 28, 1960) was an influential author of African-American literature and an anthropologist, who portrayed racial struggles in the early-20th-century American South, and published research on Haitian
Vodou. The most popular of her four novels is Their Eyes Were Watching God, published in 1937. She also wrote more than 50 short stories, plays, and essays.

Performs Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Stageworks Theatre, Tampa Bay, FL; Show run time = 90 minutes. Rehearsals: individual and group (will discuss during audition) Must be available to rehearsal on Friday, August 30 and
