Auditions for Performers in Sydney NSW, Australia for Theater In Education Tour

Sydney based male performer required for Theatre In Education tour of NSW & ACT

Location: Sydney NSW

Type: Theater

A position has come available for a Sydney based performer who is passionate about children’s theatre to join our existing team of six.

We are casting for our October & November 2020 tour into Primary Schools, Kindergartens and libraries in NSW and ACT (see website for further info). This role will be working with a highly experienced performer who has toured with us many times before.

Rehearsals are full time during the day for two weeks, Mon to Fri, either 9am to 5pm or 10am to 6pm. Rehearsals are planned to be held in Melbourne from Monday 28th September to Friday 9th October. (We will cover travel and accommodation expenses.) Note, this may change to Sydney if cross border restrictions look likely to be in place.

The tour and rehearsals are paid at Live Performance Award rates plus overtime, relevant travel allowances and Super at 9.5%. This equates to approx. $1,500 per week (before tax).

The tour will commence on Sunday 11th October. Please note you will be required to be away from home for the first week and, at least, another two weeks of the tour. The tour is due to conclude on Tuesday 24th November but may be extended if we get additional bookings.

You will learn two shows, both of which are plays with songs lasting 40-45 minutes plus a structured Q&A with the students. (We will teach you how to lead the Q&A.)

The role requires a performer with the ability to play with voice and physicality to portray numerous characters in the same show and who has a good instinct for comedy. We require a confident singer, the role would suit either an actor who can sing or a trained musical theatre performer.

We use puppetry in our shows so experience in puppetry or dance would be an advantage; but don’t worry, we have an amazing puppetry teacher!

It is also advantageous if you have a genuine interest in working with children, e.g. performing, teaching, etc. and experience of working in school environments.

You will be required to drive a van and also bump in and out of schools, therefore you need to be physically capable.

By the start of the tour (12th October) you must:
• be over 23 and
• hold a full driver’s license (no L or P plates) otherwise we can’t insure you on the vehicle and therefore can’t cast you.
• hold a current employment Working With Children Check. Without this you can’t work in schools and therefore we can’t cast you.

Please note, if you are successful there is the opportunity for work in future terms / years. We have many actors who stay with us for multiple tours.

Please send your headshot and resume with a cover letter answering the following questions:
– Do you have a full driver’s license?
– Do you have (or are you willing to obtain) an Employment Working With Children Check?
– Are you available for all tour dates?
– What has interested you in this opportunity?
