CASTING CALL FOR “MOONSHOT”
A short film following a transgender teenager coping with her father’s death and the videos he’s left behind as she prepares for prom.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Jim
Late 20’s, early 30’s. Male. Any ethnicity.
Jim is a to-be father with a terminal illness. Despite his dour circumstances, he’s a high-energy, goofy dad type that ultimately wants to pass on a message of universal love.
Flora
Late teens. Female. Any ethnicity.
Flora is a transgender girl on her way to prom. She’s relatively quiet and a bit emotionally closed-off to others, but finds security with her father’s words of comfort.
Natalie
50’s. Female. Any ethnicity.
Natalie is a caring mother still reeling from the loss of her husband despite the time he’s been gone. She’s supportive of her daughter and wants the best for her family.
Taylor
Late teens. Male. Any ethnicity.
Taylor is Flora’s prom date. He’s an easygoing, fun guy who’s excited to celebrate the last days of his senior year with a girl he likes.
This is a Southern Methodist University advanced-level student film being directed by Piper Peña Hadley and will be shot in Grapevine, TX (DFW area). The work is unpaid and nonunion, but meals will be provided.
Anticipated shooting dates: March 12 – 14, 2021.
Video auditions due by 5pm, February 26, 2021.
