Essay Question

VetLaw fights for the men and women who have dedicated their lives to fight for the freedoms we have in the United States. Attorneys at VetLaw recognize that those freedoms have evolved over time, and will continue to change from here on out.

As the managing attorney and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Brendan Garcia is passionate about fighting for people's rights and freedoms. He recognizes that freedom often has a unique meaning for each individual in the United States, and everyone has their own story attached to that meaning.

That is why we are proud to announce the 2019 Freedom Scholarship, designed to give students an opportunity to explore how being "free" has impacted their life. Students will explore not only the freedoms they currently enjoy, but also what being free means in the 21st century. The Freedom Scholarship will award $1,000 to a student who best shares their story about how being "free" has played a significant role in their life.

ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION CRITERIA

The scholarship is open to any student currently enrolled in an accredited community college, undergraduate, or graduate program in the United States. Incoming first-year college students who are either high school graduates or in possession of a GED may also apply. All applicants must be in good academic standing, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

To apply, please provide the following:

A) A resume that includes relevant education, professional and volunteer experience.

B) A 750-1000 word essay discussing the importance of freedom and what being "free" in the 21st century looks like to you. Address what particular areas in your life you believe the concept of freedom should be incorporated. Specifically, has there been a particular event or occurrence in your life (or someone else's) life where the concept of freedom was applied?

C) A current unofficial transcript from the applicant's school. First-year college students may submit an unofficial transcript from their most recent school, as well as an unofficial transcript from their current post-secondary institution.

The winner of the VetLaw Freedom Scholarship will be announced in March of 2020.
