Yes, Ann! ♥️ “ugly first drafts,” “your own voice,” and “ChatGPT prompts.” Appreciate the irony! 😂

Love these! I like Paul Farber’s term for ugly first drafts - “drafty drafts” 😁 And also Ann Handley you had me at cancelling “utilize” because Dear God how have we not yet? 😂

You had me at Use. Every time someone uses the word 'utilize' just because it sounds "smarter" or "more academic", my soul dies a little inside. 😩 It's so wonky to read, and often reads poorly. There are rare occasions when 'utilize' *feels* like a better choice. They are few and far between.

I love this, Ann! Favorite post of the day (ahem, year) so far. I've recently made the (HUGE for me) shift of writing quickly and then editing. It's such an improvement (in terms of efficiency) over attempting to craft each sentence carefully the first time through -- especially because even then I spent the same amount of time editing after....

I've always been a fan of that Oxford comma. The world just feels a better place with it.

The overuse of the word “utilize” drives me crazy.

I don’t see “utilize” nearly as much as I used to. It seems to have been replaced with “leverage.” In which column would you place “leverage”?
