Going live on social media is one of the best ways to engage your audience and show the world that you’re an expert. It helps you establish your credibility and increase your visibility.

But lots of people don’t go live because they think they’re not ready or they don’t know how — and they’re missing out a big opportunity to connect with people.

That’s why I get asked this question a lot: How do you go live on social media?

If you’re concerned about going live, that’s totally normal. It’s a new skill, and it takes some getting used to.

There’s lots of different tools you can use to go live, so it can be confusing to know where to start.

I’ve tried out a few different platforms. The one I like best is called Streamyard. (I’m actually speaking at their conference Fast Forward: Summer Edition on Thursday, June 25 at 11 a.m. ET about how to avoid video meeting fatigue and increase your productivity when you’re not in the office. You can grab a spot here!

Streamyard has a ton of fantastic features that make it stand out.

You can stream live to multiple platforms at once, add a “call to action” option to share content, and even personalize your stream with pictures, colors, and logos.

I recently got access to LinkedIn Live and use Streamyard to go live there and on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube all at the same time.

I used Streamyard just a few weeks ago when I went live with The Conferences for Women. I talked about how to become a pro at online meetings, and it went off without a hitch.

I knew the ins-and-outs of this subject because I had recently talked about in my training, Virtual Meeting Pro. But beyond being an expert in the subject you’ll be discussing, what else can you do?

When you’re going live, you should keep in mind all the things you would do if you were pre-recording a video or participating in a virtual meeting:

The most important tip I can give you is to prepare, prepare, prepare! This is super important and something that I teach all my media training clients. Create a list of bullet points that you’d like to hit during your live stream.

Going live can be scary because people are watching you — and there’s no do-overs! It’s okay to be nervous. Practice what you’re going to say and work on your delivery, and then start doing it. You don’t need to wait until you’re a pro to start getting your live videos out there.

You have all the tools you need right now to succeed at going live. Plus, the more you do it, the less scary it becomes!

Just remember there’s someone else on the other end of that camera who is looking to connect with you and needs to know what you have to tell them! Be of service!
