FDA Issues Warning Letter to Arrow Reliance Inc.

Important — This Is Not a Recall

March 29, 2023 — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posted a Warning Letter to Arrow Reliance Inc. of Tukwila, Washington. The letter was issued to the company on February 16, 2023 but was not made public by the FDA until March 07, 2023. The Dog Food Advisor first became aware of the warning on March 24, 2022.

This action appears to be related to an official FDA inspection conducted at the Arrow Reliance manufacturing facility from August 23, 2022 through September 30, 2022, after Salmonella was found in unopened samples of Darwin’s Natural Selections Antibiotic & Grain-Free Chicken Recipe for Cats and Darwin’s Natural Selections Antibiotic & Grain-Free Turkey Recipe for Cats.

In addition, Arrow Reliance was warned about its use of peroxyacetic acid (PAA) in its pet food formulas. The FDA deems PAA to be an “unapproved/unsafe animal food additive, however, Arrow Reliance says it uses the additive as a pathogen mitigation method to reduce the risk of E. coli and Salmonella in its raw pet food formulations.
