Poll: Majority view Biden as socially, fiscally liberal

A majority of voters said President Joe Biden is socially and fiscally liberal, a new Hill-HarrisX poll finds.

Fifty-two percent of registered voters in the May 10-11 survey said Biden is socially and fiscally liberal while half said he’s politically liberal.

Thirty-five percent said he’s socially and fiscally moderate while 36 percent said he’s politically moderate.

Fourteen percent of respondents said he’s politically conservative while 13 percent said he’s fiscally conservative and 12 percent said he’s socially conservative.

The survey found Republican voters were more likely to view Biden as liberal in all areas than Democratic voters.

Sixty-six percent of Republicans said Biden is socially liberal while 65 percent said he’s politically liberal and 64 percent said he’s fiscally liberal.

By contrast, 49 percent of Democrats said Biden is socially liberal while 48 percent said he’s politically liberal and 47 percent said he’s liberal on social issues.

Biden was seen as a centrist in the Democratic primary in 2020, and defeated more liberal candidates to win his party’s presidential nomination. He’s earned some praise from progressive groups after entering office with his response to the coronavirus pandemic and the economic recovery.

The most recent Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 918 registered voters. It has a margin of error of 3.23 percentage points.
