“Achieving the ‘American dream’ has always been a priority for the Rodriguez family…Through vinettes of events we meet Alejandro’s family: Marta, the backbone of his success; Rosa
avoiding a traumatic past by focusing on school to becoming the first in the family to finish college; Jorge, struggling to understand the difference between choosing a life between school or street smarts. But as the Rodriguez family begins to divide and take different paths, there is only one strong woman that unites the memory and the meaning of the family, none other than Abue! ”
Looking for the following roles:
PRESENT MARTA: 60, current owner of Tortilleria Abuelita. Married to Alejandro and mother of Rosa and Jorge.
ALEJANDRA: 14-17, second generation of the Rodriguez family and daughter of Rosa. The
curious and wise soul. Always fascinated by the legacy of his grandparents and grandmothers.
ALEJANDRO: 20s – 50s, better known as Alex. A hard worker and a person who supports his
community like his father Bernardo. It puts other people first and less attention to their family.
CARLOS: 20-50, Alejandro’s best friend and jokes. Very faithful friend of Alejandro and then thanks him for helping him to receive citizenship.
BERNARDO: 30s, better known as Gordo and husband of Elia. The founder of the tortillería.
ELIA: 30s, wife of Bernardo and mother of three children.
ELIA’S CHILDREN: three children around their adolescence (10-15 years old).
YOUNG MARTA: years 20-50, wife of Alejandro and mother of Rosa and Jorge.
SERITA: 50, mother of Marta, Silvia and Rufino. A businesswoman in her own way selling mole
poblano next to her factory job in Brooklyn, New York.
ROSA: 15, daughter of Marta and Alejandro. The first in the family to go to college and try to
recover a trauma in high school.
JORGE: 12, son of Alejandro and Marta. A spit-fire who dreams of being a soccer player as a child, but struggles with ideas of money, power and respect as he is growing up.
LAURA: Twenties, former tortilla worker. Former lover of Bernardo.
SILVIA: 20 years old, sister of Marta. She is the beauty of the Serita family.
RUFINO: Twenties, the drunken brother of Marta and Silvia. The pain in the head for Serita.
