OPEN ROLES:

SEYMOUR KRELBORN (Male, 25-40) Our insecure, naive, put-upon, florists’ clerk hero. Above all, he’s a sweet and well-meaning little man. He is not a silly nerd. Strong actor, singer, and able to move. Tenor range.

AUDREY (Female, 25-35) She works with Seymour and is the bleached-blond secret love of his life. She lacks education and self-worth but is honest, sweet and vulnerable. Strong actress (with comic timing), singer, and able to move. Mezzo Soprano Range (No Ellen Greene imitations).

MR. MUSHNIK (Male, 45-60) Owner of the failed New York Skid Row Florist Shop. Not a nice man – he seldom smiles and often sweats. Strong character actor and singer. Baritone range.

ORIN / RADIO INTERVIEWER (Male, 25-40) A dark, handsome dentist with a black leather jacket and very cruel tendencies. He is not, however, a leftover from the movie version of Grease. Strong character actor and singer. Tenor/High Baritone range.

CRYSTAL, RONNETTE and CHIFFON (Females, 21-30, any nationality) Three female ‘street urchins’ who function as participants in the action. They’re young, hip, smart, and the only people in the whole cast who really know what’s going on. Strong harmony singers with good movement skills. Significant presence in the show with 5-6 songs. Soprano and Alto range.

VOICE OF THE PLANT (AUDREY II) (Male) Provided by an actor on an offstage microphone. His voice is a cross between Otis Redding, Barry White, and Wolfman Jack. Think of the voice as that of a street-smart, funky, conniving villain. Strong character singer. Baritone range.

THE PLANT (AUDREY II) PUPPETEER: The creature is played by a series of four increasingly large puppets, manipulated by one non-speaking puppeteer hidden invisibly inside. The plant grows from a few inches tall to almost filling the stage. The role requires someone with physical acting skills to portray character and emotion purely through movement, and stamina to operate the medium and large puppets.

ENSEMBLE: (3 Males and 1 Female, 30-50) The ensemble to appear in various scenes and numbers and will portray: MR BERNSTEIN / WINO #2, MRS LUCE / BAG LADY, SKIP SNIP / PAINTER and PATRICK MARTIN / WINO #1. Strong acting and singing abilities, some movement. Various vocal types and range.
