World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - Toward a Global Framework on its 10th Anniversary

Highlights of the webinar include:

 

  • Opening remarks by Edwin Walker, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Aging of the Administration on Aging (AoA) within the Administration for Community Living,
  • A retrospective on a decade of WEAAD accomplishments from the innovator herself, Elizabeth Podnieks, Ph.D.
  • Pilot findings from The Worldwide Face of Elder Abuse, an international study being conducted by Pamela Teaster, Ph.D., Georgia Anetzberger, Ph.D., Elizabeth Podnieks, Ph.D., Raven Weaver, M. S., and the International Federation on Ageing. 

 

The webinar also features a panel discussion on the future of WEAAD provided by:

 

  • Alex Kalache,  MD, Co-President, International Longevity Centre (ILC) Global Alliance and President, ILC-Brazil;
  • Greg Shaw, Director, International and Corporate Relations, International Federation on Ageing;

Edwin Walker
As the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Aging of the Administration on Aging (AoA) within the Administration for Community Living, Edwin L. Walker serves as the chief career official for the federal agency responsible for advocating on behalf of older Americans.

Elizabeth Podnieks, Ph.D.

Elizabeth Podnieks is a Professor Emerita at Ryerson University, Toronto. She conducted the "National Survey of Abuse of the Elderlyā€¯ in Canada in 1991. This landmark survey marked an important step for understanding the extent of the problem of elder abuse in Canada.
