Those of you who have known me for quite a while may remember that I have a saying… “You can do anything you want to do if you want to do it enough!”

Often, when I speak to young people at a RYLA event, for example, l encourage them to adopt the same belief.

Quite immodestly, I sometimes share my story with them and my belief in that mantra which helped me lose the weight, give up smoking and run a sub-three hour marathon when I turned forty.

If you want to do more, be more and achieve more you must read this book today!

I was having a little veg out the other day and came across the video of Susan Boyle’s first appearance on Britain’s Got Talent. Watching it reminded me she believed, despite everyone else’s doubts, that she could do anything she wanted to do if she wanted to do it enough.

What I loved about that first appearance was, when asked what she was aiming for, she told them exactly what she had in mind… to sing like Elaine Page.

In this next video you see her achieving her dream.

And many of the RYLA participants prove that it’s true. Every so often I get a note from one of them telling me how they have achieved their dreams too.

So what are your dreams? Turn them into reality… just remember, you can do anything you want to do if you want to do it enough!

By the way, RYLA is the Rotary Youth Leadership Award where Rotary clubs sponsor 18 to 25-year-olds to attend a week long personal development course. I reckon it’s a fantastic program and if you know someone in that age group who needs help to get clarity, direction and motivation in their life talk to your local Rotary Club about getting them on a camp. It will be life changing!
