I love getting emails from my local suppliers for two reasons… number one, because I’m a potential purchaser, and two, because I just love getting marketing material!

I always enjoy getting an email from the wholesale butcher from whom we buy our meat. This one that arrived recently got my attention.

Why?

Well, very simply because it was offering something special. They were celebrating their 30th anniversary and that gave them an opportunity to offer us some really great deals.

No matter what business you are in, find a few times during the year when you can celebrate something. It means you can create some rather attractive offers for your database. After all, the people on your database are your regulars and they ought to get something special occasionally that favours them and sets them apart from the “blow ins”.

And the reason for the special celebration is limited only by your imagination. It could be the anniversary of you starting business, opening a new office, the birthday of a team member or the invention of a tool of trade in your business.

And you don’t only have to be in retail to do this. You can be a professional business like an accountant or a lawyer, in the health business like a chiropractor or a dentist, or a tradie like a plumber or carpenter. It’s just a reason to make your clients, customers or patients feel special!

I love what a colleague of mine does to make people feel special towards the end of the year. Instead of sending Christmas cards, he sends a happy 15th of November card. It’s different and gets remembered… and, of course, it’s a reason to make his clients a special offer.
