I regularly get to help people with their speaking skills and, in so doing, have noticed some challenges that many of them have in common.

And over an occasional article I’ll talk about some and give you simple solutions that really work.

Let’s tackle a major one.

And what’s that?

Hands! The problem is hands!

Afraid of speaking in public? Get Winston’s audio program that’s helped hundreds of people become cool, confident and convincing! More info here!

Many of the people I’ve helped have said that, when they stand up to deliver,  they just don’t know what to do with their hands!

“My hands just feel like lumps of meat”, they tell me.

So, what should you do with your hands?

The answer is simple!  Use the pub trick.

When you stand up to speak just imagine you’re in the pub on a Friday night talking non-stop with your mates.

And what do you then?

You use your hands to make your point, stab  your fingers for emphasis and wave your arms about to encompass your listeners!

And you do it all without thinking! It not only looks natural, it is natural… your subconscious working to help you reinforce your message!

So that’s the answer!

Don’t try to force those gestures. Do what you do at the pub without thinking about it!

And your body will do the rest!

(Just a word of caution! It’s best not to have a drink in your hand!)
