Tip 220- 37 Years

That’s the answer to two questions:

  •   American Pharoah won the Triple Crown Saturday. How long had it been since that feat had last been accomplished?
  •   According to most men, what is the appropriate interval between colonoscopies? OK, so I got you to laugh. But this is serious stuff.I talked to a friend last week who had 18 inches of his colon removed after cancerous polyps were found during a colonoscopy; one that he had put off for years.

    Here’s the deal.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, colonoscopies are recommended every 10 years beginning at age 50; more frequently for certain high risk individuals. You can check out the CDC guidelines here.

Preparing for a colonoscopy isn’t as bad as everyone says. And the procedure itself only takes about 30 minutes. You get a good nap for your trouble, too. I should know; I had mine Thursday.

Finally, depending on how your provider codes the charges, preventive care is covered by most health plans at 100%.

No more excuses. Make the appointment today.
