Explore Millennium Park

Tribune photographer Chris Walker made these panoramic images of the artful and cultural elements of Millennium Park to mark its 10-year anniversary. Explore every detail of our beloved cityscape. And you just might find yourself in the images.

Pritzker concert

The lawn of the Pritzker Pavilion is packed on June 9 with an audience listening to Natural Information Society and the Syrian musician Omar Souleyman, both part of the free Downtown Sound concert series. Look for a game of soccer, a pair of crutches, and a pink cell phone held high.

Chris Walker made these panoramas with a DSLR camera, using a GigaPan device to record a series of individual images over the course of 15 minutes. In the panoramas you see here, nearly 100 frames were stitched together to create the resulting single photographs. Chris used PTGui Pro software to minimize visual imperfections, such as people appearing twice because they moved during the course of the 15-minute session.

In a view looking west, visitors and artists pass through the Lurie Garden on June 30. Find the hedge trimmers, a U.S. flag and a seagull in flight.

An audience gathers on June 5 on the lawn at Pritzker Pavilion to hear Civitas Ensemble and artist Christopher Willets, two acts performing in the Loops and Variations series at Millennium Park. As you explore, try to find a pancho, a Lance Briggs jersey and a blue-plaid-shirt wearer appearing twice.

A view looking northeast shows the cityscape of Millennium Park on July 1. Find two adults looking under the stroller, a yellow-shirted boy rescued from the gargoyle and Chicago’s next big park under construction.
