benjamin toastPicture this; I’m slouching on my couch, computer on lap doing nothing in particular when I get a Facebook notification for a friend request from someone called Benjamin, Benjamin Degenhardt. Not knowing who this Benjamin was, but being in an adventurous state of mind (and also because I don’t have many friends), I accepted the request. Out of curiosity I started looking at his profile and before long I discovered that this is the guy that I have been looking for. This was THE GUY that I had hoped would answer my deepest, darkest questions about Life and Pilates. Some of those questions being: “How can I unlock the deep creativity within myself and how can I address that looming dissatisfaction that plagues my daily life? And Benjamin, just what is the point of that peculiar exercise Seal anyway?”
Yes, HE has arrived, so allow me officially introduce him to you.
Benjamin Degenhardt is based in Boston Massachusetts, and one of his many passions just happens to be the history of Pilates. And to prove it Benjamin himself said, “I’m a true Pilates geek, so much of my spare time goes into continuing my education, as well as researching the history of Contrology. I managed to collect well over 200 pages of original writings by and about Joe Pilates, as well as over 4 hours of video footage. It fascinates me how clear Joe was in his trajectory, yet how lost we are as an industry when it comes to pinning down what Pilates actually is.” He harnessed his passion and is taking what he has learnt to others. “I created 360° Pilates, a continuing education program designed to reconnect instructors to the original teachings of Joe Pilates, with a keen eye on modern knowledge of functional movement.”
And if you take a look at his workshop calendar, you can see people from all over the world are benefiting from his extensive knowledge:
MAY 2 LOS ANGELES, CAbenjamin foot
MAY 4 + 5 COSTA MESA, CA
MAY 10 PORTLAND, OR
JUNE 1 + 2 PROVINCETOWN, MA
JUNE 8 STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN (lucky me!!)
JUNE 15 NICOSIA, CYPRUS
JULY 14 LONG ISLAND, NY
Benjamin has been involved in the Pilates world since 1999 and has studied with master teachers in both Europe and New York. Since then, Benjamin has established himself as a “teacher of teachers”.
It’s time to wrap and what better way to do so than with a Tweet about Benjamin from @FormPilates, “There’s a reason he teaches all over the globe!”
Indeed there is, and lucky for us Pilates Intel will be hearing more from Benjamin very soon…
