"Who's mom came up with this saying: "Put your cassock on a hanger, so says Fr. Dettenwanger."

This is when we started our journey:

We didn't get to drink wine back then like today!

Check out the glamour shots from our 8th grade year. Be still my beating heart!

You'd think we'd be HAPPY about getting out!!! Why didn't more people SMILE?

Here's the photo of us all at the 2016 reunion standing in the just about the same spots as we did 50 years ago. Charlie Deters is not where he should be and we're not centered on the steps the same way we were 50 years before, but I think you'll be able to tell who's who:

Remember that image in the catechism about the milk bottles? What kind of milk was in your "milk-bottle" soul? Chocolate or white?

Remember the weekly reader that sort of brainwashed us?

Guess who kept his altar-boy pins? I was the second acolyte on the first solemn set. It was a big deal back then!

There seems to be a constant in a lot of these pictures....I am always in the back row. Oh, I have an idea.

Rhetorical Questions:

Are the kernels of corn still stuck to the ceiling tiles down in the basement of the cafeteria?

What would have happened to me if the cafeteria monitors would have caught me pushing the nasty green peas off my plate onto the floor and then stepping on them as I walked back to my table?

Is the charred masking tape ball Tom Bender threw still up in the light fixture in the 8th-grade classroom?

How obvious was it I was wearing my heart on my sleeve for Hollis and Kathy O'D? (don't answer this one)

I have zero memories of any of us participating in bullying. Why was that?

If you could go back in time and kiss any of your classmates, who would it be? (hmmmmm, maybe it's best not to answer that one)

Tell the truth - did you really understand that modern math?

Wow, Tim I have been reading and enjoying your column for years and never knew it was you!

Have not thought of grade school days in years. I was always mad I did not get into the great books club. What was the criteria for that anyway?

Posted by: Mary Druffel Merrill at March 26, 2016 7:55 AM

Don't feel bad Mary I dont think the teachers even told me about that club!
Perhaps the playground baseball card club was more my thing!

Did Sister Mary Emma REALLY have a bionic finger?

Do any of the girls still have their petty pants? Loved showing those off when we jumped rope!

Anybody ever get rid of the "cooties"?

Posted by: Cathy Burling at March 27, 2016 11:19 AM

Cathy,

I *still* have an indentation below my left collar bone from Sr. Mary Emma's finger. She poked me countless times as I flailed away at the blackboard trying to diagram sentences.

Oh how I hated those cafeteria peas! Some memories are saying the Memorare while walking to and from the bathroom, answering the phone in the office, having to take part in the Spelling bee ( I was scared to death), Harris Rosedale's dance classes (oh who would we dance with next?), and diagraming sentences! I love hearing other classmates memories.I'm so sorry I can't come to the reunion. If my plans change I'll be sure to let you know.

Posted by: Hollis Blase Cottrell at March 29, 2016 9:13 AM

Thanks for the comment Hollis! Oh what a shame you can't come! I've got a question for you! I'm driving down to Cincy about five days early for the reunion. I'm staying overnight with Peggy Kahles and her husband to visit. You live within 30 minutes of her. Mary Druffel is also near you. Would you be interested in trying to get together for dinner the night I'm up there? It would be interesting to see you and catch up.

Tim I have a list of the top 100 pop songs of 1966 and will update my playlist on my I-pad to provide music Friday and Saturday nights.
Classmates-let me know any songs you remember from WSAI that rocked your sox off in 8th grade!

It is great to have reunion after 50yr Tim and have pictures to remember it by.
I wife and I were over in Scotland in the last week in May and the first week June the weather was amazing. I was able to meet my friends from Facebook. The town I was born in dates back to 1140 and great grandfathers house and shop is still there 1850's. The town is full of history.

While I am not a member of your 1966 graduating class at Annunciation School, many of the pics posted are reminiscent of my own St Margarets School (Morristown, NJ) class of 1968...I, like Tim Carter, was also a Knight of the Altar, though I never got past the rank of Page. I have vivid memories of memorizing the mass in Latin, only to serve my first mass in English. I had to READ the English responses! I recently threw out my KofA pins due to my wife's coaxing to purge. Best wishes to all of you!

I'm half way through my eighty year and I've never been to a class reunion,of course,I only graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Queens NY,which was a couple of blocks from Aqueduct Racetrack, which taught me not to gamble, for which I'l be eternally grateful.I must say that your pictures were precious, but in my day ,pictures were not as much a thing.I don't remember a class photo.
