*participants don’t need to pay the exact level price; paying “between” the tiers is an option!
Basic: This cost covers most of the direct costs (but none of the indirect costs) related to hosting a visitor program. This rate is for those who do not honestly find themselves reflected in either of the other tier descriptions and who are not in a place to pay the “supported” or “supporting” price for the offering.
Supported: This level is for those for whom it is difficult to maintain access to basic needs, such as housing, food, healthcare, child care or are financially debilitated by debt. If budgeting for our offerings means cutting into funds for housing, food, etc. please utilize this level! This level is also for those who have experienced generational and systemic disadvantage in accessing resources.
Supporting: This level is for you if you have access to financial security on your own or through family, property ownership, personal savings, or can comfortably meet your basic needs through your employment. This level is for you if you can comfortably afford not to work, and can partake in activities like leisure plane travel, multiple wellness classes, or purchase many wants throughout the year. If you pay at this level, it directly supports someone who cannot otherwise afford it to attend a visitor program, by offsetting the cost for folks who do not have access to financial resources for leisure activities and who need to utilize the lowest price tier for the program.
The course fee includes camping accommodations in Dancing Rabbit’s wooded campground. Platforms for tents are provided, along with a composting toilet and access to showers in the Dancing Rabbit Community Building.
Indoor accommodations are available to rent during the course for an additional fee. We have several options: rooms in cabins, private homes, and the bed & breakfast. Email us after you register to see what’s still available.
Meals are included in the cost, and we’ll nourish you with food packed with as many wholesome, organic, local ingredients as possible.
We can work with a range of dietary needs – let us know your particulars when you fill out the registration form.
Please note that we will do our best to accommodate different dietary needs but cannot guarantee that we will be able to and in special cases you may need to bring supplemental food.
After the first weekend, visitors will cook breakfast on their own with ingredients supplied by Dancing Rabbit.
The Dancing Rabbit visitor program is an integrated & immersive experience for you and your family. It is critically important to arrive in time for the start of the program as each successive day builds on what has gone before. (We can work with you if this means arriving a day early due to transportation logistics). As you decide on your length of stay, this overview may help guide your thinking.
3 Day Program (Thursday afternoon through Sunday morning): All participants land and receive a comprehensive orientation to Dancing Rabbit’s physical layout, cultural norms, and local environment. We start to learn each others names, interests, and dreams. This weekend program is an intensive overview of core principles and values that we feel support sustainable community no matter where you are. You will learn about many of Dancing Rabbit’s physical “inner workings” that allow us to drastically reduce our carbon footprint, as well as the “invisible structures” that guide our governance, decision making, and social/cultural lives in this community. You will get a glimpse into alternative building, energy conservation, permaculture principles, regenerative agriculture, local food systems, and learn about different communication skills for engaging constructively with conflict, common pitfalls of self-governance and consensus systems (and how to avoid them).
7 Day Program (Sunday afternoon through the following Sunday): Those who stay for the first seven days will take a much deeper dive into many of the topic areas of life at Dancing Rabbit. This is a great opportunity to learn whether you would want to apply for residency at Dancing Rabbit. You’ll jump right in by forming your own breakfast kitchen coop, where an experienced Rabbit will facilitate and guide you through a group consensus process and you’ll have the ongoing opportunity to put theory into practice in a supportive/training type of environment. Longer live-learning sessions will similarly put theory into practice with conflict resolution, feminism & consent culture, shifting our land/stewardship paradigm, and getting your hands dirty with natural building, community work parties, and the nitty-gritty of DR’s internal economy, cost of living, recycling, humanure, and the chance to observe DR community and/or village council meetings as they happen. Depending on instructor availability and other constraints, some of this content will occur in the following (second) week of the program.
14 Day Program (Sunday afternoon through the final Sunday): The second full week brings an increasingly open schedule with more time for choosing your own adventure, working with Rabbits you’ve met, and generally getting a deeper sense of what it might be like to actually live in this particular community. Both weeks include joint activities with Rabbits so that you can gain a broader and representative perspective on the community beyond what is included in the formal program. Staying for two weeks gives you the best view of what life is like at DR in case you choose to move here in the future.
Visitors sometimes depart early or ask to extend their visit for any number of reasons. All we ask is that you keep us informed of your intentions so we can adjust all the associated logistics for housing, food, childcare, etc.
Childcare at Dancing Rabbit is designed to support parents so they can fully participate in the program, and is equally integrative for the children…allowing visitor kids to hang out and play with community kids, with appropriate supervision and guidance for their program activity schedule. In addition to the family-friendly times worked into the schedule, you are encouraged to prioritize your children’s needs and ask for the support you need for everyone to get the most out of your visit. Childcare is available during the summer months. Tweens are encouraged to participate alongside their parents.
Each Day follows the same general flow beginning with a social coffee & tea time before breakfast, followed by a group check-in to cover the schedule and logistics for each day. A morning workshop focusing on some aspect of living in community or a group work party ends with lunch for your group. After some personal down time you’ll participate in an afternoon workshop, ending with a communal “happy hour” where you get to hang-out with Rabbits. Dinner is provided by different kitchen coops and cooks (in accordance with your expressed dietary restrictions). Most evenings involve some optional activity or opportunity for conversation or connection, or time to soak in the sunset and stars reflecting in the pond.
