Collection Detail

Julie Powell and her husband Robin, were elected to APIC’s Hall of Fame in 2002 and 1997, respectively, the second couple so honored, following Ceil and Chick Harris. Over the decades, Julie, in addition to raising her children Dave, Amy and Will, did much to merit that honor between her first APIC show in 1971 and now. First off, she built a remarkably broad collection that spans all presidential candidates and all types of campaign items. The breadth is complemented by a depth of sophistication that focused on rarity and condition.

Along the way, Julie managed to author 45 articles on political items and textiles. She was also the solo or lead organizer of political items exhibits for schools, museums, historical societies, quilters groups and more than 50 APIC shows, including the 1999 Las Vegas National. She also served on the APIC’s Board of Directors.

Julie provided all collectors who demand  authenticity a wonderful and invaluable resource by building the APIC’s brummagem collection in the 1990s. The year 2000 brummagem synopsis she co-authored is now on the web at www.politicalcollectors.com. Julie is now ready to share her collection with the collecting community. Hake’s is honored that Julie entrusted us to accomplish this.
