Item Description
"Blazing Combat" was a war-comics magazine published by Warren Publishing from Oct. 1965 to July 1966. Written and edited by Archie Goodwin, with artwork by such industry notables as Gene Colan, Frank Frazetta, John Severin, Alex Toth and Wally Wood, it featured war stories in both contemporary and period settings, unified by a humanistic theme of the personal costs of war, rather than by traditional men's adventure motifs. The title only lasted four issues, with the covers of each featuring art by legendary illustrator Frank Frazetta (1928-2010). Offered here is the original art for the cover to issue #4 (July 1966), in 18.75x22.75" frame contains 16x20" canvas panel board that features original art oil painting depicting World War II scene with American soldier firing on Nazi soldiers as they try to exit their disabled and burning Panzer tank amidst the rubble of a ruined city. Frazetta has signed art at lower right. Canvas has some corner tip wear with light paint wear but is otherwise VF overall while art remains clean and bright. Displays NM as professionally framed.

In reference to this art, Frazetta's granddaughter Sara Frazetta had this to say -

"My Grandfather Continues To Surprise Me With His Ability To Capture And Create Worlds Through His Use Of Bold Colors, Unique Human Expressions And Understanding Of How To Use Empty Space. The Artwork Frank Frazetta Created For The 'Blazing Combat' War Story Covers Is In My Opinion, Some Of His Greatest Work He Ever Created. I Am Thrilled That They Are Now Available To The Public."

Interest in original art by Frazetta only continues to climb, with Frazetta's iconic "Death Dealer 6" painting recently selling at auction for $1,792,500.
